I've never been this busy in my life.
Let me give you a run through of what I do in all these work that I have...
Being a part time editorial assistant doesn't really mean that there's less workload. I do the same things as any editorial assistant just that I don't have to go to the office and be an editorial assistant all day. At home, I call up people that need to be called up, I coordinate with the writers and work on my articles as well.
I also am part of the Philippine Kpop Committee (loving Kpop for almost a decade now!) and we are currently organizing the biggest Kpop fan event this year, the 2nd Annual Kpop Convention. It's a very big event and we already have 3000 registered participants, and expecting about 2000 more. For a fan-organized event, this is big. We will have it at the PICC and we have over 40 fanclubs participating. And guess who's in charge of the Sponsorship and Concessionaires? Me.
As sponsorship head, I have to have meetings with these companies and be on the phone for a lot of times, discussing with them our proposals and why they should be a part of this event. Apart from this, I have to coordinate with the 40 fanclubs in giving me the contact details of these sponsors and concessionaires who are interested to join our event. This makes me glued to my computer all day.
Translating my favorite artists tweets was a past time for me but nowadays, it's become kind of a job. Though this should not be considered 'work' as I do it for fun and love for my favorite artists, them tweeting every single minute at the most inconvenient time for me (when I'm out and in meetings) could be really stressful. But teaming up with a friend, we continue to translate via SMS and I don't text much but now, I send even five or six-part messages for their tweet translations. But what's so important with these boys' tweets that we have to translate every single one and quickly too? These boys have over 800,000 fans and are the biggest boy group you've never heard of, whatever they do is news.
Apart from the translating I do at Twitter, I also maintain a blog that has their tweet digests, including their friends' reply. So I have to use image editors like Photoshop to edit and put their tweets side by side for easier reading and post them up at my blog. Their thousands of fans check out my blog for these and you really have a sense of responsibility having to update regularly for these people, right?
And since I speak Korean (thanks to my love for Kpop, I got to learn a new language!), I also have a part time job teaching Korean to some Filipino students. It's also fun cos I love teaching and have been doing so too, part time, for a couple of years.
To give you a feel of how a day is for me, juggling all these...
FRIDAY, Nov 12 - We had a deadline to pay for the venue we need for Kpop Convention. Since I am in charge of the Sponsors and Concessionaires, I had to contact them for their payments but due to some complications, some of them cannot give out the money yet and I had to make ways on how we can put up half of the venue's payment by that day. While doing so, I was on my way to Trinoma to meet up with our magazine's stylist to help her out with the clothes pullout we would need for a photoshoot by next week. I saw my Canadian friend on my way out and said she wanted to tag along. Okay~ so I tagged her along. Went to the banks first to do some transactions needed for the venue payment and then went to Trinoma and squeezed in lunch and some more errands, while Canadian friend was with me. The stylist arrived and we started to pull out clothes. While pulling out clothes, I got calls from some sponsors and I had to deal with them right then and there. After pulling out clothes in Trinoma and then Megamall, I had to go back to Trinoma for a meeting with our event organizers. At that time, the boys were tweeting and I was on a bus so my friend was texting me tweets and I was translating in the bus. When I got to the meeting with the organizers, the boys are still tweeting and of course, I had to have a meeting with them while translating. Good thing the organizers are fangirls as well and are my friends, otherwise I would be so dead texting while having a meeting.
There are more situations like this for the past few days. It's just so crazy! You may think that all I have to do is sit on my chair and type on my computer all day to do all those things. But that is the problem. I can't do that because I also have to be on the move, go to meetings and oh, tour my Canadian friend. My mobile phone can only take so much. This is the reason why I need something like the Samsung Galaxy Tab. :)
I've never been this busy in my entire life, I think. But I'm loving every part of it! Being busy is good. :)
